Bergheim’s general purpose guide to Washington area libraries provides e-mail addresses as well as information about gopher and WWW services. It also provides the sort of information a potential user needs before paying a visit or logging in online — information such as address, phone and fax numbers, hours, parking, nearest Metro station, description of subject areas collected, extent of holdings, special collections, type of catalog used, access and use policies, and services available from off-site through inter-library loan and via the Internet.Given the organization into sections for federal, academic, public, and special libraries, the index by institution/agency name is essential, as is the subject index. This is a much more user-friendly guide to the contents of the capital’s libraries than the American Library Directory.
